To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the words of the Blessed One. The Dhamma is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of anicca, dependent coarising and the five agregates most of the dhukkha will go over a typical untaught worldling's head. There's also the Tathagatha's outlook, his Dhamma draws from direct knowledge, for instance, attained through an intense quest for enlightenment spanning many lifetimes and several eons of time, to bring to us the truth of this universe with no discernible beginning. The arahants understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the Dhamma, to realise that it's not just liberating from the shackles of temporary worldly suffering- it can bring about FINAL liberation from the round of rebirth. As a consequence people who dislike the Buddha truly ARE fools, people with dust in their eyes- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the Fire Sermon, which itself is a reference to these same worldlings' attachment to the sense faculties that keep them chained to the world. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the Bhagavath's knowledge of the ultimate reality, Nibbana, unfolds itself in front of them. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a copy of the Pali Canon. And yes, I'd love to share it with you. Gift of Dhamma excels all. May all beings be free from suffering. May all beings see their kamma. Have a nice day.
