The entire reason Billie became a thing is because fans of his band made a song on her Soundcloud go semi-viral, which her brother's agent was able to parlay into a record deal. The label she signed with then spent a shitload of money marketing her and bribing Spotify to put her music into their playlists until she became popular for real (a process which took two years)
