Prior to Libya and Syria being bombed into oblivion France would let people immigrate BUT they first had to learn the native language, history, and pretty much be brainwashed into becoming French and even serve in the Foreign Legion mercenary army, it didn't matter where you were from so long as you did all that tedious shit that would drive away most people which is why it worked so well. But now that everyone can just walk into certain parts of Europe with little to no consequence those strict French standards have gone out the door.
It's a shame really but they're partly responsible for destroying the countries people are fleeing from so I guess it's poetic justice in a way.
