Qanon is a good example of a modern cult, imo.
so the real problem is esotericism and whether the access to information has either increased people's general awareness, or if the access to more information lead to an increase in exposure that snares more people in crazy spiritual expression
anyway i say his cult wouldn't have taken off in this day and age at all
