Yeah and those same stories are in modern cultures too. I don't think they influenced career choices any more than than stories do now. Farming and paying taxes to the king was your average day in antiquity.

There's no way the average person back then used to be some indiana jones going around the world slaying beasts and discovering ancient gold. They were peasants living in mud and farming all day.
