Is it really that bad?
Are there benefits to smoking it?

I'm not sure if I'm better off smoking or not. I want to smoke now and I'm not sure if I should go buy a new pack

Premade cigarettes taste fucking awful, get a good pack of tobacco without additives and roll yourself. If you aren't weak minded and tending to getting addicted to things, it is not a problem.

In medical terms, one packyear is 20 cigarettes per day for a year. That means 2 cigarettes (or equivalent) per day for 10 years gets you one packyear. No doctor would assume smoking to be the cause of disease (such as cancer) if you have <10 packyears and only an absolute degenerate would smoke fucking 20 cigarettes a day or even more, that's just insane.

I did this for about a year before quitting altogether. It's much cheaper, and after a week or two of smoking hand rolls I couldn't stand the taste of a regular cigarette. Most bags are resealable so as long as you don't leave them open your tobacco will be fine for a long time. An 8oz bag used to cost me about $8, and a 300 pack or RAW rolling papers was $3-4. Yeah, there are tons here. Japanese don't give a fuck about smoking. It is getting a lot more strict though in the last few years. Smoking inside is almost exclusive to small side-street bars/izakayas. Chain restaurants have banned smoking and before Corona hit, smoking was being heavily shunned because of the negative image it would show during the Olympics.
That said, a lot of office workers, teachers, doctors, nurses, and construction guys still smoke outside on their breaks.

If you have a social life (unlikely here, I realise) then social smoking is pretty useful. Back when we had bars and clubs, the smoking area was THE place to pick up girls to fuck.

It makes you look really cool, in fact it's hard to take anyone seriously if they don't smoke in those situations.

I took up smoking in my early 30's (far too late) and now smoke less than once per week, a few cigs while drinking with friends is great.
