there's less of those
my theory on why is content aggregation. almost all internet traffic goes through like 6 websites now. you can find a comment on youtube, that you could of found on /pol/, or on facebook. the same people are using everything.
4chan was more tight knit, i remember boards being really cliquey. you couldn't make the same post on /a/ as you could on /jp/. boards almost had personalities desu, people would identify with a board more than the website in its entirety.
early /b/ was cliquey too, because it had a horrible reputation and illegal porn daily so 90% of people had the common sense to not go to it.
idk where i'm even going with this, i guess those tight knit communities don't exist because there's just too many people using too few sites. i'm sure some places exist like that still but overall they don't exist in the same way. also /pol/ ruined 4chan obviously because it just overwhelmed most other boards culturally, maybe?
