Are there people who use anime as a sort of escape from the real world? Yes, but I'd be inclined to believe it to be yet another case of a conspicuous, if not vocal minority. People feed on sensationalism nowadays it seems, but really most people are probably like myself in that they just find the concepts expressed in anime more resonant to themselves than some 3D shitshow emulation of 'real life' and, I guess it comes down to the types of shows one watches but if anything the series I've watched have enriched my life for the better.. That being said, as with any media there is shit made specifically to warp the mind around itself, but its stupid to think that defines the whole thing.
