Even if you're innocent, talking to the police will never help you if you are a suspect. The police are only trying to find evidence to incriminate you. That's it. They don't care if you can prove that you're innocent. That's for the courts to decide. And the Fifth Amendment completely protects you from the claim that "since you're not talking, you clearly have something to hide, so you must be guilty." Never talk to the police.
