The big size of the screen more than makes up for the reduction in quality on cheap projectors. (more expensive projectors displayed on a good screen are almost as good as a modern TV)
Just invest in good light control (this is most important: blackout shades and smart lightbulbs) and have a good sound system (I'd go with a 5.1 surround setup as the best bang for the buck, but you can build it piecemeal over time just starting with a Left and Right Speaker)
This gives you a cinema experience in the comfort of your home. There's nothing like seeing a 12 foot wide image displaying a movie on your wall with a great sound system vibrating your walls.
If you're a single anon, do it: it's a talking point with women and gets them to want to come over easier.
Unless your walls are uneven, you don't even need a screen. you can broadcast on a flat wall and get great quality.
