Anyone else on /bant/ ever been to prison? What are your country's prisons like?

I've only ever been to prison once. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, mostly just really boring because you had to stay in your cell for about 22 hours a day, so I just read lots of books. But in the couple of hours or so we were allowed out each day there was always lots of violence and people getting threatened and beaten up of course, so I just tried to keep to myself and out of everyone else's way.

I saw some funny innovations too, such as people reacting flavour sachets from packets of noodles with other available substances, putting the product on a wick made from paper, placing it in an electrical unit in a wall (which every cell was outfitted with to power a television) and the resultant spark would light the wick so you could light a cigarette with it, since tobacco isn't allowed in NZ prisons so lighters weren't available.

Overall though yeah prison was okay, 3/10 food wasn't too bad actually
