In the general populace? No. In a corporate setting? No. In any any situation where conformity is valued being yourself will not work unless 'you' are a sheep. In personal relationships you pretty much have to be. Faking it leads to problems.
If you are having problems I'd suggest an old book by Robert J Ringer "Looking Out for Number One." Really, fren, read it.
