what it mostly comes down to is that a lot of people get their impressions of this stuff from mainstream japanese media and cable which is absolute dogshit just like it is anywhere else, just in a different way then westoids are used to. just look at the humor in something like knowing bros vs behind the scenes content from music shows. we're just seeing the asian equivalents of jersey shore and going "wow asians make really shit TV huh."
>but muh takeshi's castle. muh comedians. it's all slapstick whether it's good or badit ends up seeming that way because slapstick is easily digestible across cultural barriers and you're not going to remember jokes that go over your head/you can't relate to. like a japanese person isn't going to have any clue what the fuck larry the cable guy is on about when he says he got over the death of his dear ol' dog with a day on the lake fucking his sister or whatever, but they know who mr bean is. same idea, jokes about japanese culture don't make it out of japan but slapstick does so it looks like that's all they've got.

i just ran a bunch trade runs. got the kraken paint and have a bunch of gold left over still. think i was wrong originally and the gold hoarders definitely are the best way to make gold since you pick up so much random shit to sell to him no matter what you're doing, might as well put up the flag for it.
also figured out if you don't get sunk and take your flag back down you get extra gold depending how much stuff you did
