They need spankings from time to time as an alternative form of punishment, and physical punishment DOES work in forcing the shaping of a child's behavior into something you as the parent desire.
Howeveeeeer it is more than obvious that this form of punishment is not very effective in teaching children actual lessons, or helping them rationalize and shape their own actions.

If you think "rationalizing" with preschool aged children is going to work most of the time, you're living in a fantasy. If you have any experience raising a child you would understand that most children at this age-range intentionally push boundaries, and are resistant to rational thought. They still think in terms of "me me me", and taking away privileges and toys often just doesn't phase them.
This is where the final option of spanking comes in. And YES, it IS an effective deterrent to bad behavior in a child.

I worked 2 years in a kindergarden and 2 more years in public school. If you actually know what you're doing, then you can get kids to behave through positive sanctions, and non-corporeal punishment. Also around the age of 4-5 kids usually get the skill to think rationally. Sure it's easier to just hit the kid, and yes he'll stop, for the moment, but on the long run it will have a detrimental effect. It's only low-class poorfags that beat their kids, because they are emotionally stunted and/or doesn't have the time to probably raise their own.

You can take off your belt and beat them in front of the police station nobody would bat an eye. It's legal and this is a so called Christian nation (bullshit.) Just do not go overboard.

In my opinion it's a necessary evil. Beat your children. If they know enough to run or do something bad in secret they know enough to be punished. Otherwise they end up spoiled. Beat em too much though and you're basically damning them to a future on the streets.

Your task is only to curb childish irresponsibility. That on top of the added bonus of a child receiving public reprimands in front of his peers changes the dynamic.
However, physical punishment does come in and IS useful when dealing with willful disobedience or defiance of authority.
A parent's responsibility is not just to be a friend, but to be an authority figure that guides them in life, and that requires for you to sometimes take the time to put your foot down and show that they cannot behave in any way with you.

I think disciplining a child is ok when they deserve it. When a child is crying or throwing a tantrum about wanting to get something from say a store, it's fine to yell or shout maybe even smack their bottom if it's that bad. In your house, you are the parent and your child doesn't just get to fuck around and break shit and hurt siblings or pets so if they are doing this shit and being just a ridiculous asshole, then it's fine to smack them or hit them with something if it will stop their tantrum. Kids nowadays are being babied by their parents and without proper discipline, they will become uptight, self-righteous, stuck-up assholes to everyone because they think they can do anything and get anything they want without repercussions.

Not really. I was sometimes spanked, or even beaten as a child. Don't remember much of it, but what really left "scars" was not the physical reprimand but being literally spit on and being emotionally abused.

I believe that kids mostly deserve mercy and dignity, and that for the most part a firm, authoritative word does well by itself.
