Got two examples.
First my own. I've been in very few relationships but all of them lasted years. One of these girls was really insecure about her choices, so after about one year she started thinking she could do better. Now I know for a fact there's nothing wrong with me. But she started acting as if I was keeping her prisoner, denying that epic romance waiting for her out there. This became a weekly episode. So one day I decided it was a waste of time, that she was only gonna get worse. So I gave her what she thought she wanted. Four years later she was still calling me. Guess there was no epic romance out there.
Second example, my sister in law. She had the guy of her dreams all but secured, but she thought she could do better so she walked out on the guy, or the guy walked out on her, still don't know for sure. She lives with us cause of the pandemic. Whenever she sees my newborn son she gets all teary. I hear her crying in her room at night. She cried a whole day after she got called "auntie".
It's pretty sad.
