the game it's most similar to is enter the gungeon actually in my opinion. the core thing that sets it apart from everything else is that there's no stacking up a bunch of modifiers like most roguelikes and no complex skill set swapping like most magic focused games. it's just a basic attack, a dash, and 4 spells bound to right mouse, Q, E, and R.
the variety comes from the fact that there are a lot of different basic attacks, dashes, and other spells and you can switch them throughout a run but it's at shops and stuff rather than on the fly
