it's simple really
it's real and true that certain collections of superficial traits correspond to certain overall lineages / ethnicities
this is a concept we sometimes call "skin color" as an umbrella term, even though there is a bit more to it than just that, e.g. nose and forehead size, average height, etc
"race," as contrasted against "skin color," is the notion that these trait differences run deeper than the superficial in any meaningful way
"skin color" is real, but "race" is a myth, because the trait differences between different broad lineages are in fact exclusively superficial insofar as they are significant, and, equivalently, insignificant insofar as they are anything but superficial
