It really depends. If you want a simplified answer for all western food that isn't standard to eastern, probably something along the lines of potato. I eat rice just as much as I eat potatoes though.

Probably sandwiches. Some sort of sliced deli meat and cheese combination. They're quick, easy and cheap to make. What you eat for lunch isn't really a sacred thing here. It's just an excuse to step away from what you're doing for a bit.

It used to be bread. Now the west doesn't really have a starch staple. Bread, pasta and rice are all eaten but the focus has shifted to meat more and more. This is due to increased wealth and exacerbated by atkins 70s onwards. Also with lives getting more sedentary a starch staple isn't required.
