I started pretty relaxed in the beginning of last summer, and I really only learnt the Kana and Kanji. And since like early December i've been spending like 15-20 minutes a day learning kanji and some other stuff. I don't know how much I know, but I know how to say some stuff and I know how to form basic sentences. also what's gmi and ngmi

Back when I took Japanese classes, my class spent like 8 classes (which took place once a week,so 2 months in total) just on learning kana.
I find it odd that many people on DJT claim to have learned kana through Quizlet in only one afternoon.

Learning to recognize only hiragana in several hours does seem possible, since I learned how to recognize hangul in 1 1/2 hours using Anki.

What I had to do for katakana was to memorize the shape of several words and names.
Also, learning katakana taught me the importance of stroke order.

They spend loads of time on everything because they emphasize writing and classwork that gets graded. It's beneficial for teachers/academic administrators in providing evidence on students' progress, even if for students it's just repetitive work that mostly causes them to feel tired and bored rather than to feel like they're actually learning new stuff.

I understand that learning to write takes time but that's what homework are for. Tests are evidence enough for progress. In my opinion language classes are a huge meme. Isn't classes just learning grammar + using it? Who tf thought 2 months of kana is fine
