that's fine but i think it only works short form or as a secondary thing. it's just so tiresome to see a romance get dragged out for 24 episodes when two characters are obviously interested in each other and there's nothing else going on.
if it's a movie then there's time for the characters to have a change of heart, something to come between them, overcome their flaws, etc. in a meaningful way while keeping things short enough for it to be dramatic instead of having to dedicate three straight episodes to them being a bit uncomfortable around each other.
if the romance is sort of a B plot then it can play out much closer to real life where you can see the characters develop and figure out their feelings over a long period of time without it seeming totally arbitrary that they don't just sit down and talk it out like normal people because they've got a lot of other stuff going on and you can SEE that they've got a lot of other stuff going on.
