Essence of it is basic animistic pantheism (like Shinto). Universe is God, divided into lesser forms. Each form is a spirit whos dream is reality and dreams compete leading to hierarchies that control reality. IE religion has a high priest hero figure who ritualistically obtains the mantle of heavenly power from the highest duology of God, uses it to shape reality to his will, and his descendents (your seed is your soul subdivided) become a holy race whose proper observances of rituals related to the cosmic patterns (as above so below) harmonizes Earth with the high-priest ancestor's ordered heaven.
Assyria had a version of this where Assur was the high priest and great ancestor. Assyria's original home was Iturea, the region near Damascus and Galilee. Assyrians were driven from their home by volcanic lava flows (Eden), as nomads conquered Babylon. The nomad kings were also the Hyksos.
A client colony of kinfolk in Iturea, Galilee and Samaria became a decent kingdom. They conquered a trading post to the South and built a small temple there amond dozens. Shalmanessar III of Assyria is Solomon. The small, unimportant temple was in Jerusalem.
The client gets uppity, so Assyria relocates the population closer to Assyria.
A few refugees migrate to the trading post town.
They follow Canaanite religion in which every land has its own god, but El Elyon is the god of all. Their god, whom they imposed on Jerusalem, was Yahweh.
Persians send a ruling elite later to rule Jerusalem. They impose monotheism. Canaan's gods are discarded only for Yahweh and of course El Elyon. Later, Yahweh replaces El Elyon, leaving Yahweh's slot open. They fill it with Metatron. Later Ptolemy advises the priest-governors of Judea to handle their shit and organize the chaotic debates in their religion to solve the disunity in the region.
