>>12088574Born in a JW family here. 25 and never baptized.
I personally think that their teachings by itself are fine. I grew up fine and probably avoided a lot of pitfalls because of the moral teachings they have.
That said, i think that also has a lot to do with my parents? They were a lot more relaxed compared to other parents in our congregation, they taught me a lot about free thinking and never enforced the teachings on me on anything.
I was still obligated to go to the meetings and the field service but i guess that was fine.
Another example of that is the fact that my brother gave up on the religion and got out when he was 18 and my family is still cool with him, no shunning or anything ever happened.
I do think some of the teachings are a little bit too much, as someone that was able to make a lot of online friends over the years the "everyone outside of the organization is not a true friend" always rubbed me the wrong way.
Also the fact that talking with my JW friend is like walking over eggshells, it's just too much things you have to censor yourself. growing up with a completely different background on the internet always made me feel like an outsider talking with them.
All in all, i think they are by far the most "consistent" Christian religion if you overlook some of the scandals that pretty much every religion has from time to time and focus on their core, moral and base teachings are good.
