The term "special snowflake", while useful, does not fully explain the lbgtext phenomenon.
The exaggerated desire to be unique and special is a direct result of the modern world. Living in a big city completely crushes individuality. In a small city, or a village, if you are a doctor then you are "the doctor". If you are a plumber then you are "the plumber". In small groups you are someone, opposed to big populations where you are just another strange face in a sea of strange faces.

Humans are not meant to live in cities, we are tribal animals, and when confronted with the dissolution of our individuality we defend ourselves by trying to make part of a group, in an attempt to assert our uniqueness and individuality. That's why people cheer for a certain football team, despite there being no meaningful difference between teams. That's also why nowadays people adopt these unconventional sexual identities, it is yet another attempt to differentiate themselves from the mass.

This is not a bad impulse, difference is good, wanting to go against the grain are all good things. The problem starts when men start cutting off their dicks. But again, this is just a symptom of a very serious disease: big cities, big aglomerations of people where individuality dies and the hive mindset reigns. "Live in the pod", "eat the bugs", all of this is a result of big cities.
