>>307839823>What province are you from though? I am guessing Ontario.Yep, in Toronto. Big city life seems to bring misery everywhere now. At least in the first world.
For the other leafs in the capital of crap, has anyone else noticed what's happened to independent retail? Even before COVID killed restaurants, it was starting to feel like the only shops still around were for the potheads.
>>12123538>Why are most of the portugese here either from the azores or madiera? It was Poortugal back then, too.
My family is from the Azores. When they left, the only jobs on the islands were in agriculture or fisheries. As farmers and fishermen in this country can tell you, that's not exactly a wealthy living. Moving to another country (especially as yours was entering a period of political uncertainty) sounds like a good idea when you're barely scraping by.
>>12123541Thanks for the concern, but I don't think the former colonies (where I've never had any ties) are places for me. I don't want to be worshipped or anything like that, lol. I just don't want to live in an unaffordable land of listless mutts who villainize the past and those that reflect it.
>>12123564I might be wrong, but doesn't it seem like the self-loathing white thing comes exclusively from people of mixed origin? You know, the people who identify as Canadian with no prefix (but not native because that would be colonialization). My theory is that they don't know where they came from, so they've filled that void with globohomo crap.
There are commies and queers everywhere, but are the French like this? We laugh at Quebec, but they have their own distinct culture (soggy gravy fries and all) and for the most part, know their story.
