This is truly one of the best aging movies out there alongside most of Snyder's work, so I'm looking forward to a day when the majority of people come around to appreciating them the way a select few of us already do. Just on its purest level this is a deeply personal father and son story from the first half of the ultimate guidance of Jonathan Kent with this beautiful notion of literally telling your son that he is going to change the world, to the 2nd half of discovering the roots of his divine/powerful side from Jor-El. The opening sequence of Krypton is simply one of my favorite sections of a movie in film history. The grand sci-fi visuals, the creative technology and costume design is all so masterful. Then at the end this PROFOUND idea of Kal's parents choosing to live with their mistakes and die alongside Krypton because they are just as culpable as the counsel is just heart wrenching, but incredibly powerful. From the opening shot of the birth of Kal in a beam of light, triumphant score, and the effect on the local wildlife automatically informs us of this deeply mythical tone that Snyder will be using moving forward with these stories. The idea of hope is something that is extremely clear as well from the beginning, Krypton has lost all free will, and Jor-El restores that priceless dream and sends his only son with whom he has no idea the man he will become to another planet with Krypton's entire future inside of him, but with the hope that will be guide them to a better future than Krypton's, and that is just beautiful.
