Vegetable Garden

No.12143736 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
How are the preparations for your spring vegetable garden going /pol/? Depending on where you are in the northern hemisphere, the next few weeks will probably be the ideal time to start your seeds indoors.
> Tons of seeds don't need light for germination if you don't have the equipment.
> Once they grow into seedlings, you can find plenty of affordable lighting options for <$30 that can accommodate at least a dozen seedlings.
> If you rent or don't have land you can dig up, look into container gardening.
> Leafy greens or small fruiting plants can be grown pretty effectively in small 1-3 gallon containers.
> For larger fruits like tomatoes or bell peppers, 5 gallons or more would be best.
> If your only option is indoors, look into at least growing some hydroponic salad greens in mason jars.
> If you cannot into fertilizing, just pick up a bag of worm castings. It will provide sufficient nutrition for any vegetable and there's pretty much no way to fuck it up. Add it to the top of your soil every couple weeks and try to mix it in a bit.
> If you're a lazy fuck or travel a lot, there are $20-$40 drip irrigation kits out there that can water all your plants automatically.
> While your seedlings are maturing, look into common pests, diseases, and signs of nutrient deficiency for whatever you're growing so you can identify problems and understand how to remedy them.
What excuse do you have for not learning a valuable new skill and becoming more self-reliant?
