I think there should be a new field of psychotherapy research that I'd call psychopalliative work.
That is, we need a kind of treatment focused around offering reassurance and lifestyle suggestions to people who are so mentally ruined they will never be able to adapt to normal life no matter what we do.
Like, if someone truly suffers such severe social anxiety that it's incurable, we should try to help them figure out how to live comfortably and combat loneliness while still avoiding people.
