When you are 5 years old one year is 1/5 of your life. That's a lot, so it seems a lot to you. When you are 20 years old, one year becomes 1/20 of your life. When you are 40, it's 1/40. So the idea basically is that the older you get the lesser one year becomes relevant in comparison to how much you already lived, and your perception of it (and generally of time) changes in accordance with it.
TL;DR: it will only get worse
