“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” - James 2:18
Our good works are (or should be) the natural result of changing and saving faith. When James says "I will show you my faith BY my works.", he is saying that the proof of his faith will be found in how he behaves. Though still imperfect, he won't be the same.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10
We are told to love each other.
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” - Matthew 22:36-40
"On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
This statement is true. If we love God with all our mind, heart, and soul, we will then abide in "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" and our commandments on idolatry and false god worship. If we love our neighbour as ourself, we will abide in the commands "Thou shalt not kill, steal, covet" etc. Because you don't kill, or steal from, or hurt someone you love. In this way, he that follows those 2 Great Commandments, abides in them ALL and fulfills the law.
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” - Matthew 5:17
