In 2012 I was in a relationship with a wonderful girl. We were both young, had big plans, and our whole lives ahead of us. I had a great relationship with her family as well. I was without a doubt in love, and we talked about marriage/family often.
Unfortunately, she was in a serious car accident on her way to school one morning. She was airlifted to the hospital but it was too late.
Her death crushed me. I was a shell of a human being. I'll never forget the pain when I first found out. I legitimately went into a state of shock. I suffered from severe depression for years. I would not wish that feeling on my worst enemy.
It's pretty incredible that it's been almost 10 years now. In that time, I graduated from university, got a career, eventually got into a relationship and am now married to another woman.
I often think of "What could have been" if she hadn't died. I've been having these thoughts more and more as my wife and I are now expecting a child.
