>>12194692dunno, the way i see it is that it's very logical but only when you apply hindsight. like sure algebra is the next logical step from arithmetic but it's so difficult to think "hmm ok but what if one of the numbers was an arbitrary unknown" or consider the implications of that. it's logical of course but it's so hard to navigate that it might as well be arbitrary.
i was actually talking about this sort of thing the other day because my sister is doing a research paper on different teaching methods, and she found one where the teacher is essentially a sherpa that helps students when they're lost while they decide on what topic comes next and research it all by themselves. with something like a language that sounds totally reasonable since there's basically an infinite number of topics to explore, learning about one thing raises a bunch of natural questions, and the order you look at stuff largely doesn't matter. for something like math it sounds like an absolute nightmare though
