>>12210934>Cholesterol is the direct cause of arterial plaque. That's like saying skin is the direct cause of lacerations.
Cholesterol is the fatty acid you body uses to repair damaged cells, arterial plaque is caused when cells are repeatedly damaged from other (indirect) causes, before the cholesterol from the previous damage has had time to clear.
Age, smoking, overwork, stress, exposure to harmful environmental factors such as pesticides or dust, these "indirect" causes are the actual problem, the cholesterol is the solution to those problems but it can only do so much.
A "high cholesterol" diet not only has no effect on the rate of heart disease, it's also a very poor way to gain weight as animal fats take a long time to digest thus the body has no need to store them in it's own fatty tissue. Furthermore a "low cholesterol" diet tends to also be a high sugar diet, which does cause obesity and heart disease.
Effective the advice you are operating under is having the exact opposite effect to the one you want.
A good documentary on the subject is Fat Head (2009).
