I never had the daddy issues because I knew my dad was doing his best but he was a drunk. When he stopped drinking and hitting me shit got really good between us.
I help him out once a month, visit him once a month and talk with him almost weekly. We've got a great relationship now but of course he still has parts of him that are shitty.
Even when I was young I understood this and just stayed out of his way and hid shit.
