There's a problem here in that the division symbol (÷) makes the problem poorly written. It has ambiguity because it doesn't properly describe the subsection of division used. It can describe ratios, division, or denomination. A more accurate use is a slash (/), because it indicates a whole section of math to be cordoned to either numerator or denominator depending on where you put it in the equation.
When you have ÷, the equation can be either (8÷2)(2+2) or 8÷(2(2+2)), with no indication which implied parenthesis is used. When you have /, it's very clear that it chops the equation into numerator and denominator in formal definition respectively on left and right sides of the symbol, yielding
(8)/(2(2+2)).
8
---------- = 8/(2(2+2))
2(2+2)
Don't feel bad, it's ambiguous math and written badly, and as such there's no answer unless further specified. Like the math equivalent of doctor's cursive handwriting.
