The stereotype of Finns being big drinkers isn't exactly true.
There is more alcoholism like there is more suicides, and the reason for that is astronomical, but the general population doesn't drink that much.
There are also factors like the Finnish only genetic mutation that makes a drunk male needlessly violent and impulsive. There are numerious stories of men slaughtering their wives and children while drunk because of the stupidest things, and of fights leading to hospital visits and death in taxi lines full of peope too drunk to drive for themselves.
So, rather than thinking of a nation of heavy drinkers, people should think of a nation that handles their alcohol very badly.
