>>12300689well ffmpeg is the default backend in mpv, which i use, but i have used raw ffplay before too. in general ffmpeg has the best decoders available, far better than the likes of something like vlc for example. plus it has the biggest file format support, even with rudimentary flash support. generally i always suffer quality issues with other codecs, but never had a serious issue with anything using ffmpeg(whether playback or encoding/decoding in audacity or a video editor or such)
but for the average users, just compatibility and quality
