I wish you the best anon. Ignore pretty much every street peddler (water bottles, umbrellas, dress up photos) stationed next to major monuments and you're good to go. Rome can be a bit chaotic (and it's full of gypsies) but there's so much to see it doesn't matter. Instead if you want to relax go to some smaller, comfy Renaissance town in the center/north. I've been going on walks alone since forever and I've never had to worry about anything. If you visit Rome don't forget to also check out the Pantheon.
