Overall they're more strict, but once you get licensed you can argue Canadians have better access in some respects. It actually gets really complicated because there's a lot of "this gun is banned _by name_" shit.
It blew my mind when Canada got the Tavor years before the US (because of US import restrictions) and the Tavor is legally the least restricted firearm class because of it's barrel length.
