Recently at a local restaurant I like to go to I got my usual to-go order. When I picked it up, the cashier who knows me by name and what I usually order every time gingerly told me he had given me a little treat for being a good customer. When I looked into my bag he had given me an additional side item, and this set me off. I thanked him for it, but put it back on the counter and told him he shouldn't do that. Even if it came from a good place and he could get away with it it completely flew in the face of professionalism. People around my age really act this way, pretending like it's okay to bend the rules for people you like, when it's a fact of life it just isn't. I lost a lot of respect for him today.
