Rats come for food and comfort, if you take that away they go. Don't leave food on hand, nothing. Neither human nor animal. Don't leave trash exposed. All in hermetically sealed cans.
Don't let them burrow. Keep clean.
With that the rats will be gone in a couple of days. Poison food is ideal if you want to kill them. You can also emulate natural enemies like eagles.
