On an annual day of celebration for cannabis enthusiasts, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies burst one grower’s bubble by seizing more than a ton and a half of what they say are illegal marijuana plants.
At 6 a.m., deputies served a search warrant in the 70-100 block of Johnson Street in Mecca, an unincorporated community north of the Salton Sea.
Some 11,170 plants weighing 3,180 pounds were uprooted. Investigators also seized 500 pounds of processed marijuana, a news release said.
No arrests were made, said Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
