It also preys on the fact that many people care more about appearing intelligent than trying to learn new things, by forcing as many things related to scientific research into the show as they can, although instead of conveying them in an articulate way, they dilute it with cheap humor that appeals to the masses and only briefly touch on the core of the branch of science they're grasping, and often have jokes based around things in science that are semi-common knowledge, to further increase the shows appeal to the masses.
