>>12698944I did that. Then I went to 5 clinicals and was disgusted each time.
Your ERs are 40%-60% overdoses on alcohol and opiates. Its something they tell you in class, that most ER patients aren't attack victims or heart attacks/strokes etc but are dumbfucks with no self control.
One of my patients was a guy with type 2 diabetes. I asked him as part of my assessment "Hows your diet?" "Oh my diet? I eat lean meats and greens and oatmeal when I want to give myself a treat heh heh heh" then his bloodwork came in and his A1C was 13 fucking percent. That means that for at least the last three months, this fat fuck was waking up to a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch, chasing it with a Starbucks and then having peach cobbler for lunch. Who knows what for dinner. I called him out on it and he said "well hey I don't remember putting my hand on a Bible and swearing an oath! A hyuh hyuh hyuh"
There's a commonly used acronym called HONDA which stands for hypertensive obese non -compliant diabetic alcoholic. A large portion of patients are just that, like the guy above.
Every single nurse hated their fucking job. I'd always hear them cursing under their breath while walking from patient to patient. One nurse at the med cart, "You want your fucking vicodin? HERES your fucking vicodin"
Several times throughout the day, homeless people would come in. Apparently there's a large portion of bums that knownthat if they have fake seizures in front of stores/entranceway to buildings, people call an ambulance. They get taken to a local hospital. Theybget asked if they're in pain and how much. They always say 10. Boom free shots of morphine. They get their fix then leave without ever paying anyone a dime.
I switched to BIS and am much happier doing this. I work for a local container manufacturer and make 90k a year which is a lot where I'm at.
Nursings a crock of shit. The money isn't worth being around scum 12 hours a day.
