What are the best novels of your countries? What works have permeated through your society? Which have lasted the tests of time!

If you are from a small country like Slovakia or Cyprus pls answer because I would like to learn and read. Everybody knows the big German, French, English authors, but who are the famous men from smaller countries? I don't know the famous writer people from Croatia.
