I've gone to an Anglican church my whole life, but I've become pretty disillusioned. The services keep getting "modernised" to the point they have no meaning. We don't even read out of the prayer book anymore; we just get the words we're supposed to repeat put up on a screen. There are traditional services that I'd go to if it weren't just geriatrics that go.
I may be able to find another Anglican church around that is better, but I've been wondering about other churches. I imagine Catholic and Orthodox are generally much better in this regard, but I've never actually been to a service.
I see there's an English Orthodox church not too far from me, and I'm kind of drawn to it. But I feel like must westerners who become Orthodox are LARPers. I mean I know a big part of what makes me interested in it is the "exoticness" and wanting a somewhat unique identity.
Anyone have thoughts on this?
