>>12778743Theres probably all kinds of shit out there, but understand that earth has existed for millions of years before forming intelligent life capable of reaching outside of our own planet only in the last 100 years through radar/rocket flight. We have not found any evidence of pre-existing advanced civilizations on earth, only relatively primitive ones meaning that it is at least not a common occurence to host intelligent life. Meaning that if we use earth as an example of life on other planets, earth has only been able to have an effect on other planets in a very small amount of time it has existed, and we have already been close to destroying our species with nuclear weapons and now with climate change. It is unlikely that this advanced and extremely complex/interconnected society will survive in the long run.
Combine this narrow slice of relevance in time with the fact that the universe is fucking huge, lets imagine that there is another planet like earth "close" to us, only a couple of light years away. You would still need to travel an immense distance to reach that planet, and ultimately for what purpose? Its interesting and news worthy, but what does it matter if there is a blop that eats another blop on planet "sliakol" 100 million miles away? Unless we find a way to travel beyond the speed of light, it may as well not exist, considering that that planet will if it is like us, only be intelligently active for a very small % of time, which would have to line up with the time frame that our planet is intelligently active.
So its very likely that there is other life in the universe, but they would exist at times different than the time you and i exist in, and so far away. Its possible that we become much more advanced and break these barriers ofcourse, but you would need to time travel and travel almost instantly to make real contact around the universe. And how would you even know where to travel to?
