What is the absolute darkest universe in dark fantasy entertainment out there? Books, games, art, anything like that.
I am trying to find something grimdark and morally ambiguous that it's sickening to experience. Something where it's hopelessly dark yet somehow life persists, plagued by the hellishness they exist in.
Anyone know of anything like that?

I not much into anime, but if it encapsulates the level of grimdark I am looking for, then I suppose it'll work.

Even the art of Zdzislaw Beksinski and the anime Berserk aren't dark enough for what I'm trying to find.

In terms of music, some stuff gets really close to being disgustingly evil and morbidly dark. Stuff like Combichrist, God Module, and Wumpscut has a few songs that are truly dark.
I guess I need something like how in games there is True Damage, I need a setting that is True Dark. The most evil thing possible.

Lovecraft can come close. Really good stuff comes out of Cosmic Horror in general. Just need like a Cosmic Horror + Grimdark + Dark Fantasy + Horror + literally a giga-gallon of hell.

It's almost like something so completely dark isn't possible. I have had nightmares that are of a higher level of dark fantasy than I have seen in any form of media, and even those aren't dark enough.

Dark Souls is good. It definitely touches on the itch, but it doesn't scratch it. I need a Dark Souls where everything is a river of blood and bones, the buildings are living flesh screaming in agony, where people are scared just of existing because of the hellishness of the world.
Okay it doesn't literally have to be those things. Just a much higher level of "living hell" than DankSoles

That's good art. Also It made me realize something about the universe I'm looking for. It could have beings that aren't afraid of the hell they live in, so long as there are things experiencing the universe for the hell that it is.
