>>12807954The culture is like that. The country is poor so from a young age, you're made to worship money and status, and do anything to get ahead of your fellow Indians. School, universities, etc. are stupid competitive there. You cannot survive in Indian society unless you're willing to do anything to get ahead. Basically, the idea is to hoard money and then use it as a way to establish yourself and acquire status in society so others respect you. That's the basic idea at least. It's not like America, where you earn money so you can spend it to have some fun. In Indian culture, you earn money so the next generation has a higher status.
Even I had a lot of trouble getting rid of the indoctrination when I came to America. Was really hard to convince myself to spend money instead of being a penny pincher.
