Do you think it could make sense to say that schizos, people with illusions, and other people who have trouble telling what they imagine apart from reality are just people who are so bored of the safety and predictability of everyday life that they make up enemies or people who persecute them just for the sake of believing that there is something to fear for, something to try to fight against in life, that there is something actually trying to make a great effort to preserve what you might imagine to be your well-being at stake?
Maybe they've gotten tired of fiction. Maybe things don't taste the way they used to before. Maybe everything just feels dull, so they might be subconsciously hoping that they can bring something out from the back of their minds which can make all of those emotions feel very vivid, very real. It's probably the same issue as with people who buy sex toys and hire prostitutes for the sake of BDSM/character play, or even as with contemporary politicians whenever they quote historical figures or participate in anniversary festivities of historical events. It's all just "seeking for the rebirth of a great something", which might not necessarily have been something "real", but that was at one point absolutely "vivid", perfectly "scintillating".
