well sure i don't think the distinction is that vital and often times they're interchangeable anyway, but it's nice to know the intricacies of these things.
for example if u asked someone for help understanding something and they gave u a thorough answer that solves ur issue it might be very rude to say 短観な説明はありがとう when u mean 易しい説明 no?
these mistakes will happen no matter what of course but if you're aware that it's a possibility then it's much easier to notice when u've made them and clear up misunderstandings that might cause difficulty
